After spending Friday evening with his family and friends at the VA-KY Fair in Wise, Jim Webb tossed in a few campaign events on Saturday.
The morning started off with an early breakfast meeting in Lebanon, sponsored by the Russell County Democratic Committee. Over 50 people came out for donuts, coffee, and to see Jim. Those in attendance included numerous local elected officials, and people from Buchanan, Dickenson, and Scott counties.
You can view some of Jim’s remarks in Russell County in this video clip:
Next up, Jim crossed Dante Mountain and headed to Clinchco for a rally sponsored by the Dickenson County Democratic Committee. About 30 people turned out to meet and learn more about Jim. The folks in Clinchco were really fired up and very interested in how they could help Jim win this November.
You can view most of Jim’s remarks here (sorry about the shaky start):
Finally, staying in Dickenson County, Jim headed to Clintwood and met the veterans at the VFW District meeting. I did not get a firm count here, but it’s safe to say there were more than 100 people in attendance. They were very excited to see Jim and invited him to stay for lunch.
Jim told the attendees that, “no matter which side you are on politically, I promise that when I am elected, those serving and those that have served, will not have a stronger voice in Washington.” Jim also echoed his previous calls for his opponent to to introduce a comprehensive GI Bill.
Jim was joined at all the campaign stops by Senator Phillip Puckett. Sen. Puckett spoke very favorably of Jim and said “Webb will be a senator we can count on. He will be one that is not bored in the U.S. Senate and will work hard representing the Commonwealth.”
The day was especially exciting for me. It is great to see Jim speak and interact with folks, but I was fortunate enough to see it several times over the weekend. At each venue, people were genuinely interested in actually talking with Jim. The more he spoke with them, the more they smiled and nodded in agreement. Jim’s message appears to be exactly what folks are looking for this year, and that is evidenced by his steady rise in the polls since announcing his candidacy.
I look forward to Jim coming back down to Southwest Virginia so even more people can meet Virginia’s next United States Senator.
